I think from a business perspective, that they tend to be a safe investment. Due to the fact that they already have a fan base and are proven commodities

yeah, remakes for the most part have sucked

A couple exceptions - I liked Carpenter's take on The Thing, and I liked the Dawn of the Dead remake

I like the remake of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane better than the original. Vanessa Redgrave is incredible!!!

    Takara,
thats what your script should be about ~ There was this guy who wanted to remake a movie...............then you could combine all kinds of bit from movies that have been remade to make your movie. Zombies who protest, German freaks who love to play Funny Games having coffee with Jason AND Michael, cloned Alice's, Alfie and the Bad News Bears wreck havoc among the masses, while Barbarella has to come in and clean it all up, esp when the Blob decides to show up with The Body Snatchers. Here comes Mr Jordan, Down to earth, because Heaven can wait, cause we need his help. Then we can all Escape from New York with the use of Flubber under cover of The Fog. It would be all kinds of fun with Dick and Jane and they'd all be Gone in Sixty Seconds. The remake script would be deemed with Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Expectations.
and in the end, They all get to be in the movie.

Shite, I'd go see it!! lol

I'm fairly stoked about Robert Rodriguez remaking Barbarella.
I'm NOT okay with a remake of Evil Dead however.

Honestly, of the entire contents of this list: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...lm_remakes I cant render any sort of informed comarison between the original and the remake, having never been a huge fan of old foreign films.
I can state with confidence that John Carpenter's The Thing kicks ass on the original FrankenCarrot version of the 1951 vwesion.

I will say also that I liked both versions of 12 Angry Men and Lolita just about equal, though each original had different strengths.

It is my understanding that it is not a remake. It is being made by Sam Raimi and will have Bruce Campbell in it.

the hip catchphrase du jour is "re-imagining"

              *cringe*

sometimes a reimagining works, though. Casino Royale, for instance.

And I thought the new Star Trek was fabulous, although that was not necessarily the consensus on this board :)

                *klunky word, though*

                  True, on both counts ....

That's what i just read recently, something about now a remake but they are looking for a younger guy.

              Whatever.
Unless its a whole new chapter, I don't think they should touch it.

I saw the remake of "The Bad News Bears" and I begrudingly have to admit:

I didn't hate it - mostly because I thought Billy Bob was a lot funnier as coach Buttermaker than Walter Mathau.

(I also agree that John Carpenter's "The Thing" was great)

Oh, how I lament for the days that one, such as yourself, would be forced to disembowel himself for speaking such slanderous trash~!!!

                      Oh another exception:

I thought the remake of "Invasion of The Body Snatchers" (1978) with Donald Sutherland was even better than the original (which I also enjoyed).
