Re: Favorite films in B & W
Thu, April 10, 2008 - 2:42 AMI'm assuming you're excluding "The Barkleys of Broadway" ;)
I would definitely list Swing Time was being way up there on my list of B&W films.
Also:
The Lady Eve
Sullivan's Travels
Double Indemnity
His Girl Friday
Casablanca
The Third Man
Rashomon
I could probably keep going all night... -

Fri, April 11, 2008 - 2:54 PMWell, if we're allowing films that have both (since both Pleasantville and The Wizard of Oz have been mentioned), I'd like to add Wings of Desire. Beautiful film. Far less color than those other two films. :)

Ghost & Mrs. Muir
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 2:51 PMNot everyone likes romcoms, but this is one of my all-time favorites. Maybe it's more guilty pleasure than great movie, but at this point I can't always tell the difference. Not to be confused with the lesser TV series, this stars foxilicious Gene Tierney as our fiercely independent heroine and a young, strapping Rex Harrison as sea captain Daniel Gregg, the cantankerous ghost haunting Gull Cottage. For good measure, we also have on hand the roguish George Sanders (best known to those of my generation as the voice behind Shere Khan in Disney's "The Jungle Book") and a very young Natalie Wood as Lucy Muir's daughter.
Also, for some reason I can't quite explain, I'm partial to comedies with a supernatural twist such as "Heaven Can Wait," "Angel on My Shoulder," etc. -

Re: Ghost & Mrs. Muir & Stanford Theatre
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 6:59 PMI saw this one at the Stanford Theater (www.stanfordtheatre.org/stf/) and was pleasantly surprised given my vague memories of the TV series. Are there any other theater's like that out there? -
