A Different Loyalty - A good film about a woman (Sharon Stone) who marries a man with a secret life (Rupert Everett).
Better Than Chocolate - Fantastic indie film about a girl finding herself and love out of the closet.
Bride Wars - Fluff but fun.
Cars - Cute animation film. Beautiful to watch and I loved the scenery background animation.
The Comebacks - A spoof film that mocks football movies. I really enjoyed the Journey homage.
I Am Legend - I really enjoyed this film and it was emotional to watch. The idea of being the last one left in a metropolitan. It was a very interesting storyline.
Ice Age 2 - Awesome animated film and better the first one.
Lady From Shanghai - A great thriller film starring Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles, based in 1947.
Married Life - A good drama about a couple, his best friend and his mistress.
Rock N Rolla - Guy Ritchie's latest production. I found it exciting to watch and fun to root for the good and bad guys.
Sherrybaby - Maggie Gyllenhaal is fantastic in this film about a woman leaving prison after a 3 year term who wants to reunite her relationship with her young daughter. Gyllenhaal is amazing in this film.
Year of the Dog - I really enjoyed this film starring Molly Shannon, who's life dramatically changes after her dog dies.
Zohan - This Adam Sandler film was delightfully funny from start to finish.

Wed, June 24, 2009 - 4:45 PMDefiance
- It was nice to see a decent movie about the plight of Jews in WWII without the endless scenes of people being led slaughter.
I really like war movies and this had plenty of action to keep me happy.
It was nothing more than entertaining and heartwarming.
Starting Out in the Evening
-I wanted to see what else Lauren Ambrose (Claire from Six Feet Under) could do, so I rented this one.
Her character was pretty spicy. It was some good fun.
I was really liking it, and then it ended. I guess it could have ended better.
But Frank Langella owned this movie. Lilly Taylor.... eh
Splinter
-I swear, I never get grossed out watching gore. But there was a scene in this movie that I had to pause, and wait a few minutes before I could start it up again. I liked the new monster. I'll expect a sequel.

your tactful analysis of "Defiance"
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 7:23 PM>> It was nice to see a decent movie about the plight of Jews in WWII without the endless scenes of people being led slaughter.
Yeah, the holocaust is a real downer. Why do they always have to put that in movies about the Jews in WWII? It really stands in the way of the action.
Oh wait -- maybe it's because the goddamned ratio of Jews led to the slaughter versus Jews fighting the Nazis in the woods with machine guns during WWII is about 800,000 to 1. -

Re: your tactful analysis of "Defiance"
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 7:29 PMThat was harsh.
Reminds me of how that Jesus movie Mel Gibson made ( Passion of the Christ? ) just seemed like a three hour long torture scene. Just seemed like it it could have been a little different. But as Mr. Gibson so eloquently put it in response to people that were pointing out flaws in his depiction of ancient Mayan culture in Apocalypto, he said "Fuck you! Go make your own movie!" lol -

Re: your tactful analysis of "Defiance"
Wed, June 24, 2009 - 7:51 PMI know. And I understand the sentiment. But I dont think the poster meant it to be taken as a shallow ignorant statement. I recently watched Hitlers SS: Portrait In Evil and kind of felt the same way about it. The whole movie wasnt showing the misery of the Jews. Most of us know about this from other movies and reading about the subject. This movie focused on two brothers and their experiences during that time. They both joined the Nazi Party and both felt conflicted about their decisions and roles in life. It's not the best movie ever but I do think it's good. Well worth the four bux I spent buying the used dvd from Blockbuster.

Thu, June 25, 2009 - 8:52 AMThanks for weighing in Mr. M. I can see your point. That comment landed the wrong way for me, but I also probably took it the worst way. Sorry if I was too abrupt, datpotter. -

Fri, July 3, 2009 - 10:23 AMNo worries barnaby. Upbeat and fresh was what Defiance was for me.
I just saw Diggers
www.imdb.com/title/tt0469897/
It's a slice of life back in the 70's
A slow rambling story of family and friends.
Rambling in a good way.
It was very real for me in many ways..
Maybe for some others in my age bracket as well.
enjoy

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 11:24 AMRevolutionary Road ~ Ug, that was agonizing. I guess that means it was well acted.
Yes it was, but very agonizing.
Seven Pounds ~ The new and improved Will Smith.
I loved it. **don’t touch the jellyfish**
Punch-Drunk Love ~ Brilliant ideas executed with flare.
I would have never expected it to be as good as it turned out.
Galaxy Quest ~ This was a riot.
All I can say is, I'm sorry I waited so long to see it.

So fucked up. lol
www.youtube.com/watch
And YES, God mother fucking damnit, I'm well aware there is nothing lol about it. But dont take out of context. It's so fucked up you have to laugh to some extent right? As fucked up as it may be. Or as un ( or in ) conclusive. I think it's excellent that it raises a questionmark and an exclamation mark in some peoples heads if nothing else. Isnt that the point? : )
PS - SORRY HATERS!!!

Tue, July 7, 2009 - 12:39 AMCant find a thread on it.. but I saw Watchmen.. www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/
It was saved by some of the oneliners.. but by and large I did not think much of it.. the plot was okay - but it took too long to develop and perhaps it tried to be something it was not. .still. .I was never a comic book reader, so perhaps it would be better if you were.... IMDB 7.9/10 rating is VERY generous ...
One of the lines was a from on of the super heroes, Rorschach, when in jail for a short time, surrounded by felons he has helped convict and he says..
Rorschach: None of you understand. I'm not locked up in here with you. You're locked up in here with me. -

Tue, July 7, 2009 - 10:33 AMMoon: A serviceable sci fi film with a great performance by Sam Rockwell and a lot of very familiar ideas. B+
Away We Go: A sometimes captivating, sometimes twee look at 30-somethingers searching for a place to call home. It's much more persuasive in its little observations than its big comments, and many of its minor characters are repulsive caricatures. Some fine performances. B
Whatever Works: This is on my short list of least-favorite Woody Allen movies. Larry David gives a fine performance but nothing can save the atrocious screenplay. The entire situation is unbelievable, the existential dilemmas are trivial and dated, and the characters are stupidly misconceived. D- -

Philip Seymour Hoffman does it again.
I totally believed his character.
The story is about man who's wife committed suicide, leaving behind a note that he can't bear to read.
