I have high hopes for this. Michael Mann's work is usually pretty interesting and it's got a great cast

What I didn't like was knowing how it had to end.
That's what I get for being a gangster fan.
But learning that it was Batman that tracked him down, I can see why Dillinger never had a chance.

Mann didn't go too high gloss, and yet they spared no expense.
It was nice to watch, and fun time seeing all the olden era stuff.

Depp surprised me. It was a character I hadn't seen him do yet.
    Did you notice Leelee Sobieski?
There were a bunch of other folks I recognized from I don't remember what.

    anyway, it's a good shot'em up

    oh..........

    ***********SPOILER************

You think they really beat the shit out of women like that back in the day?
~that really pissed me off seeing that

It was entertaining. A descent adult pop corn movie. (i hate the term pop corn movie.)

I liked the use of electric guitar in some of the music, could have done without the vocal. I'm becoming less and less of a fan of using songs in movies. I hated the typical orchestral nonsense that emenated from the screen during key moments of supposed high drama. Took me right out of the movie.

I also got bored with the use of detailed shots all the time. There's one scene in particular: *******POSSIBLE SPOILER********* after a bank robbery where one of the guys got killed, where the tinkling sentimental nonsense orchestral sound track comes in while we see the car pull away down some highway and then there are a bunch of detail shots: the hood ornament, Depp's face, the other guy's face etc. etc. I would have preferred no sound whatsoever and just a shot of the gettaway car driving off down the road.

Marion Cotillard is pretty much wasted in an role of sycophant girl. She gives it more than a lot of other's would have to her credit.

The action was pretty good and the tenseness of some seems quite palpable.

Follows the old rule that whenever you have bonding between male characters on the screen there is bound to be a good detail of violence towards a woman (check out the Lethal Weapon movies.)

The trailer for the new Scorsese flick was a treat!

<< I hated the typical orchestral nonsense that emenated from the screen during key moments of supposed high drama. Took me right out of the movie.>>

One of my favorite rants. Most soundtracks distract and insult me during movies because they dont often fit artfully and are rarely discreet in their attempt to tell me what I'm supposed to feel about something.
One of the things i loved about Van Sant's Elephant was it's utter lack of this device.
