Either as a child or an adult. Whatever. What movies or scenes from movies blew you away. I just posted on the Charlton Heston thread that the final scene of Planet of the Apes totally blew me away as a child.
Another one is the last scene in JAWS. Now when I watch that movie it seems boring and hilarious. But back then it was very dramatic. I will never forget the excitement of the last scene in that movie. A little girl jumped up and started singing "BURN BABY BURN!!!!" The whole audience started laughing.
When Visiting Hours first came out in the theatres my Dads friend took me and at the very end I was actually so freaked out that I jumped up in my seat and fell in between the seats and hurt my back. I was stuck there for a couple minutes.
Also that scene that I think was at the end of the very first Friday The 13th. At the end? Wasnt there a raft floating and then..........? I was like OH MY GOD!!!!!!

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 10:34 AMThese are just my most recent 10s from the just-finished Sonoma Valley Film Festival:
Captain Abu Raed, a fim from Jordan that was as uplifting for me as Zorba the Greek back in '64
Amal, a film from India whose main character is the essence of exquisite compassion
Jar City, a dark mystery from Iceland that is edgier than anything Hictchcock made
Young at Heart, a knock-out documentary about a chorus whose average age is in the 80s
Lynch, a documentary that only David Lynch fanatics will dig (and there'll be a Lynch 2 and 3 to follow....)
Never Apologize, a documentary about the fascinating Malcolm McLaren's homage to director Lindsay Anderson

Tue, April 15, 2008 - 3:11 PM>I love the scene in Empire of the Sun when the little boy sings a song in Welsh to honor the Japanese flyers.
Reminds me of a few other great singing scenes, like:
- La Marseillaise in "Casablanca"
- in the pub at the end of "Paths of Glory"
- Because in "Across the Universe"
All of those scenes are amazing.

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 7:42 PMNot so much anymore but when Escape From New York first came out it really blew me away.
Same thing with The Warriors. Wow!!!
When I first saw Flowers In The Attic when it first came out it was pretty heavy. I still like it but it's hard not to laugh at the end. lol
One Flew Over the Coo Coos Nest. The end of that was totally upsetting to me. Such a waste of a perfectly vile mans life. He was vile with a heart. He had a lust for life. And that dreaded Nurse Rachett. That actress plays the perfect wench. She was the old wench in Flowers in the Attic too. I always forget her name.
Parenthood. I LOVE that movie!
Overboard
FOUL PLAY. That movie was and always will be one of my most very favorites. Goldie Hawn is one of the most amazing women to have ever lived. : ) -

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 10:08 PMI remember when I first saw Michael Bay's cinematic sequence in "Bad Boys" when that wild chase-scene with the hard driving musical score hit -- it was probably the first time in a long time that I was jumping outta my seat with excitement. It just really *worked* ... it's since become a "standard" on his features. Similar sequences were in the second Bad Boys... The Rock... Armageddon... etc.
The bullet-time sequence near the beginning of "Swordfish" where the shrapnel pieces from the human-claymore-mine tore up the whole street. Absolutely kick ass! -

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 10:32 PMThere is a scene from some space movie long ago. Not sure if it was Alien or not. Or Blue something. There is a scene in a bar in outer space where there is cool music playing and there are men and women go go dancers but they are dancing so it looks like they are having sex. I think maybe they were actually. I wish I could remember what that movie was. I'd buy the movie just for that scene. I wish I could see a video clip of just that scene on YouTube or see still shots of it. -

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 12:43 AMWhen the spaceships first appear out of the firestorm/cloud in Independance Day. The movie was hoakie (although I still had fun watching it) but I had been burning the candle at both ends for several days w/ very little sleep so was kinda in a surreal state of mind already. Then we sat very near the front & our theater had just added surround sound. It was waaay cool.
2 scenes from The Abyss: The opening scene where the camera spends several seconds going through murky water & then the huge propeller of the sub materializes. I was pretty young & I just remember how huge it seemed in the water. Also, the part where Bud is flown over the Alien City? Aircraft? thingy.
The opening scene of Disney's Beauty & the Beast with the forest and waterfalls. I truly love the art of making animated movies using painted sliding glass. It just gives a 3d depth that is wonderful.
Goonies: I was 8 and here were these kids around the same age on the screen cursing like sailors. My dad took me & I couldn't help but feel gleeful that they were getting away with cussing with him there. Funny what thrills a youngin'.
All the wooded scenes of Legend. I loved the fantastical beauty and I've always been a HUGE fan of glitter.
Avondale from Fellowship of the Ring. I'm ok w/ CGI but there is something truly better about an actual set. The footage has so much more depth to it. -

Re: Scenes or movies that blew you away???
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 2:10 PMIt wasnt a movie but the Twilite Zone episode where the lady is having all the plastic surgeries. When they pulled off the bandages and she was so beautiful and all the doctors and nurses were saying "She's still ugly!!!" or something like that then it showed what they all looked like. That completely freaked me out.
Also, when I first watched Creepshow long ago it completely freaked me out. The scene on the beach with the tide coming in and the camera monitors. Oh my God. I watched it a couple years ago again and it didnt have the same effect on me at all really. But when I first saw it. Man. That was shocking.
