Don't go hatin' on us knitters!

Most knitters who are at least in the intermediate stage (more than just the two basic stitches) can knit simple patterns without looking at the screen. Or they figure that a movie that's mostly talk and little on-screen action isn't something they have to look at all the time. And it isn't a huge motion (like laundry folding) or thought-consuming (like paying the bills) process. It's just hand movement.

Besides, if you've ever worn a pair of hand-knit socks, you wouldn't complain ever again :)

There's some people just I just like having around. If they choose to be there while I watch a movie they are not that interested in, one could take it as a compliment. Yes, I like watching with real cineophiles, but. . .

Context is everything for me. Generally speaking I'm a theatre snob too. I'm there (or on my couch) to get lost in a story. My date isnt going to get fondled, (till afterwards!) there wont be any discussion during the movie, let alone getting up to pee. The only fidgeting motion will be the bag to mouth popcorn ritual.

That said, there's nothing better than Bad Movie Night with friends gathered around Return of the Living Dead and you havent truly lived till you've soaked in an action flick with full contact audience participation in Richmond.

I know who I am and therefore wont watch movies with people suffering from attention deficit dis... oh look! What lovely shoes!

I don't mind a bit. What really annoys me are people who eat popcorn. I find the smell nauseating, and the noise of crunching is FAR more distracting than silent laundry folding, etc.
I don't care if they pay attention, so long as they don't annoy me with noise.

Most of the time, if I'm seeing a movie for the first time, I like to watch it by myself. That way I'm not distracted and I don't have to listen to anyone make comments or ask questions.
I guess there are some movies I've seen before and want to share with someone - and then I'm annoyed when that person does something else while we're watching - but this is rare.

the quiet activities aren't so bad, but sometimes the SO has to go through the newspaper stack, cutting out sports articles. the rustling noise of the papers makes me want to set it on fire! o.k, maybe not set it on fire...i would have to clean that mess!
