Re: Star Trek 2008
Tue, September 18, 2007 - 7:51 PMWow. U sirius?
That would really be nice.
Please don't tell me it's enterprise...
Voyager would be acceptable
But I'd really like to see TNG -

I heard it's going to be an "Academy Years" movie about the original characters. I can't imagine that working.. -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Wed, September 19, 2007 - 11:11 AMIt's another reboot/reimagining of the series. It takes place before the original 5 year mission with younger versions of the main characters and their first missions together. Rumors are that it involves an assasination attempt on young Kirk that will reboot the history, so they can start new adventures without being dependent on the established canon.
Leonard Nimoy will be playing the older Spock while Zachary (Heroes' Sylar) will play him as a young man.
Only they, Chekov (who was not on the Enterprise until 2nd season) and Uhura have been cast.
Who should play the rest?

Winona Ryder Joins 'Star Trek'
Nov. 9, 2007, 11:58 AM EST
By Michael Fleming
Variety
"Star Trek" is beaming up Winona Ryder.
Paramount Pictures and director JJ Abrams have set Ryder to play the Vulcan mother of a young Spock (Zachary Quinto).
Scripted by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the film revolves around the Starfleet Academy days of the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Chris Pine has been set to play Capt. Kirk, Simon Pegg will play Scotty, Karl Urban is Dr. McCoy and Eric Bana will play the villain, Nero.
Ryder recently wrapped "The Informers," a Gregor Jordan-directed adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel, and the Geoffrey Haley-directed "The Last Word."
She is in pre-production on the Rebecca Miller-directed "Private Lives of Pippa Lee." -

Chris Pine ... Kirk
Simon Pegg ... Scotty
Karl Urban ... Leonard 'Bones' McCoy
John Cho ... Sulu
Zoe Saldana ... Nyota Uhura
Anton Yelchin ... Pavel Chekov
Leonard Nimoy ... Spock
Rachel Nichols ... Unknown (Most likely either Janice Rand or Carol Marcus)
Eric Bana ... Nero (Villain)
Winona Ryder ... Amanda (Spock's Mom)

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sat, November 10, 2007 - 10:08 AMI agree. Karl Urban as Bones... I can't see it. I do like to look at him a lot, but I'm just not sure how it will play.
I do like Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Ryder does look like a Klingon so that may work. Overall I feel like this movie it being made for a mass-market audience rather than Trek fans. Probably the smart decision but I hope those of us who actually love Star Trek aren't disappointed. -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sat, November 10, 2007 - 1:25 PMAs far as I'm concerned, Star Trek is as dead as Wagon Train, but what the hell, I'll give it a try. If anyone can pull this off, J. J. Abrams can.
Simon Pegg ... wtf?
Anyone who names their child "Nero" obviously wants them to grow up to be a space villain. -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sat, November 10, 2007 - 2:08 PMPersonally, (and you're talking to a closet trekkie) I still think they could do another TNG movie. They left the door open for another sequel with Nemesis. Data dies, but they've still got the other Data, who had all of the "real" Data's memories dumped into him....
Dunno.
I think the original Star Trek has jumped the shark.
And if they ever do anything with Enterprise, Gene Roddenberry will come to life and kill everyone at the premiere. -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sat, November 10, 2007 - 9:02 PMReally? Wow ... I feel that the Next Generation movies were, on a whole, spectacularly unsatisfying, and would be loathe to submit myself to a follow-up of the atrocious "Nemesis". Good god, that was a terrible movie.
The only bright light in the series was First Contact, and even that was I think half-ruined by the "Borg queen". The very idea of a "Borg queen" completely undermines the brilliant concept of the Borg as a foe. The whole Zephram Cochran (sp?) subplot was also just distracting. They really couldn't get enough story out of an encounter with the Borg to fill a movie without a half-rate time-travel discursus? How's this for a better idea: the first hour could have been spent on the battle with the Cube that destroyed most of the fleet, instead of giving it two minutes of screen time.
Of the other entries, "Generations" was bad, "Insurrection" was forgettable, and "Nemesis" was a complete disaster. -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sun, November 11, 2007 - 9:24 AMAt least the TNG films never involved meeting God. That was Bill Shatner's disastrous directorial attempt in the original series. (See: Star Trek V).
You're right, the TNG movies are pieces of crap, especially Generations. But, I enjoy them, and I'd rather see another one of these pieces of crap made than a flashback of young captain kirk.
Speaking of Star Trek, have any of you ever seen Free Enterprise? It's hilarious.

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sun, November 11, 2007 - 12:51 PMI agree wholeheartedly with your assessment Barnaby. I grew up a big fan of the Next Gen series and the movies were underwhelming. They seemed to forget the simplicities that made the series work. The first error they made was blowing up the ship and giving them some supercharged new one with lots of pretty movie lighting. And then they produced less than stellar screenplays that tried to be far more light hearted than the movies should have been. They couldn't really continue now cause everyone's too old and fat to fill in those suits, particluarly Data.
First Contact was the best but a very far cry from what a true Borg movie should have been. I won't repeat what you said Barnaby, cause I completely agree.
Damn movies needed more Khan.

Yes, and Christopher Pike will be played in this movie by Bruce Greenwood.
Still a weird cast. -

I strongly second Duchess's recommendation for "Free Enterprise" - it is quite hilarious, if you're a fan of the series.

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sun, November 11, 2007 - 5:44 PMspeaking of "free enterprise" has anyone seen "the lost episode"? it was produced in the 80s by some students at UCSB, and i first saw it on a copy of a copy of a copy VHS version which had been passed around the whole town, twice.
you won't find it on netflix or IMDB, cuz it used original footage, dubbed with new, outrageous dialog. HOWEVER, it's since been reproduced on DVD, (they never got sued cuz supposedly the powers-that-be secretly liked it so much.) it is a true send-up, absolutely hilarious, and a must for any start trek fan.
i replaced my worn VHS years ago, when i discovered it again online. you can get it here:
www.sevensouth.com/lostepis...EWhat.htm
they can keep making derivatives, but there's just so much good fun in satirizing the original! enjoy! -

Re: Star Trek 2008
Sun, November 11, 2007 - 7:04 PMIn my memory, I remember an episode where the enterprise and the Klingons were trapped together in a void filled with stranded starships and had to hook their ships together to escape. I have never seen that episode in repeats and I am wondering if I imagined it. -
